For children age 5 or older, we perform annual pulmonary function testing right in our office to assess lung function and control, guiding treatment decisions. Crucially, we teach about environmental controls and trigger avoidance, confirm correct inhaler technique, and provide necessary documentation like an Asthma Action Plan or a Food Allergy Action Plan. Children with asthma require regular follow-up visits every 3–12 months, based on illness severity, and these visits are mandatory prior to medication refills.
